Relief Sculpture
Relief sculpture, also called bas-relief or low relief, is a form of three-dimensional art that is raised slightly from a flat surface. The sculpted elements project just enough to create depth and texture, allowing light and shadow to interact with the work and give it subtle movement and dimension
To create low relief sculpture on interior walls, I use plaster, to build up shapes directly on site. This allows the work to become part of the architecture itself.
I also experiment with pre-made molded sculptures, which lets me recreate designs to be multiplied.
My approach emphasizes careful layering, texturing, and a tactile connection to the material, resulting in works that invite closer observation.
Not ready to commit to a sculpture on the wall?
No problem
I also make relief sculpture on framed panels. This is a great way to experience the work in a less permanent way. The sculpture can be hung wherever you like.

Yes, I always seal the final sculpture. I either apply a coat of clear varnish in the same sheen as the surface, or I apply a coat of high quality paint that acts as a sealant.
-
I work with high quality, artist plaster to prevent cracking. I also employ the use of a stabilizer under any areas where the design calls for thicker buildup. Most often, the stabilizer is some kind of wire or mesh that I adhere to the surface and construct the sculpture around it.
-
Yes, I can add color to a relief sculpture. Many clients chose to leave it white for a subtle style, but I can make the sculpture any color.

My rate to design and install a custom relief sculpture starts at $3,000. The final price is determined by scale, detail, surface conditions, and installation complexity. Pricing tiers are available in the mural/relief application form.
